Parenting in the 21st Century can be challenging and finding the resources you need in the social service
system can be difficult to find. In Indiana, public and private agencies and grassroots coalitions for
grandparents and other relative caregivers have begun working together to expand the services available
to kinship caregivers who are caring for children outside of the foster care system.
- 1. 4.9 million children (7 percent) under age 18 live in grandparent-headed households. That's up from 4.5 million living in grandparent-headed households 10 years ago. This increase has to do with challenges in our economy over the past five years.
